Eager to delve into this game? Limber up those tapping fingers and read this iOS app review after the jump.

Lo and behold, this isn’t just a spin-off neither a movie tie-in (yes, that would be the Disney flick, Brave) nor yet another clone, is the legit sequel of the original Temple Run which allows you to indulge in an endless running game. Likewise its predecessor, you must attempt to survive as long as possible in the game.

Having the same game mechanics as its first installment where you race down ancient temple walls and sheer cliffs, this one tweaked its environment with improved visuals and outstanding animations. Unlike before where you run in a flat terrain and deal with sharp corners, this sequel takes place in a more “fluid”environment containing curves and hills. Not to mention, it added some appealing add-ons to your gaming experience such as the stimulating zip-lines and mine carts.

Elevating Features

  • Beautiful new graphics
  • Gorgeous new organic environments
  • New obstacles
  • More powerups
  • More achievements
  • Special powers for each character
  • Bigger monkey!!!

Run For Your Life

You’ll get that sense of deja vu right from the first boot up of the app as the camera sweeps on the cursed idol that has been the cause of so much running over the past year and a half. You, as the hapless adventurer in the game will still be chased by a freaky, giant monkey– yes, it has only one humongous villain–and well, you have to again use a combination of swipes and tilts to jump or slide past obstacles and collect coins.

Just like its genre-defining forerunner, this game will test your reflexes. However, this one takes place during a perpetual dusk in a floating temple in the sky. You simply have to swipe to make your character jump, swipe to turn left or right, swipe downwards to slide, tilt device to collect coins and double tap anywhere to activate power. Then, it’s all up to you how far you can run and well, survive.

There are also four playable characters in the game, each with their own attributes and upgradable abilities. Here are the character options: Guy Dangerous, Scarlett Fox, Barry Bones, Karma Lee. You can unlock each once you’ve collected a certain amount of coins.

With all the generous amounts of swipes and tilts, you go through some fresh levels in the app. Basically, you just have to maneuver your cursed idol character by evading perilous cliffs and huge gaps and escape to as far as you can.

Once your cursed idol was caught off guard and died, you can save him by using a gem. It’s only limited but if you want to get more of it, you can avail it through the in-app store. You can also purchase in-game currency to unlock customization options, such as new playable characters and special power-ups to get higher scores.

The rest of the game follows the familiar pattern of the original. But as aforementioned above, this is improved with additional features. You may tap on the Upgrades button to select your power-ups, upgrade your abilities and even change your character. Some of the abilities include coin value, shield duration, coin magnet, boost distance, pickup spawns and among others. The gems you’ve collected throughout the game entitles you to upgrade your power-up such as shield, coin bonus, score bonus and a lot more.

Harking back to the exhilarating gameplay, you must avoid getting tripped by roof tiles in the road as it delays your run and triggers the monkey to appear right behind you. Don’t let it get you, or else you’ll be mauled by the enraged gorilla. However, it gets more exciting as this app includes a major turnaround. Once you’ve reached 20000 m, you’ll enter a mining site and ride a mining cart. To control your cursed idol, tilt your device to live and wipe downwards to duck and avoid some hurdles. The latter really can get you frustrated but at the same time it also gives you that certain feeling of  frenzy as you try to survive that certain stage.  This is precisely where excitement arouses. Trust me, it’s like a roller coaster ride that will surely heighten your adrenaline rush.

Additionally, in the game, you must deal with running streams that must be avoided, jump into those as well as those barrels with spikes. Also, slide through large trunks, escape from those emitting fire and find your balance on some very narrow paths.

Going for Gold

This fully fledged sequel has a much improved graphics and animations with its solid gameplay features. It’s a well-balanced game that’s similar to the first one as it starts things off slow then eventually goes fast and quick, keeping you wanting to play it over and over again. This is a free app but has in-app store where you can buy some power-ups, in-game currency and more. Well, so long as it’s free of any adverts, I won’t have any issues with its in-app store integration.

In addition, with this app’s smart presentation, it can definitely keep you picking up your phone to tap and grab your idol and run for your life. Overall, the game is still incredibly entertaining and much better with its pleasurable and fluid movements, I must say. Although there are some minor glitches but nevertheless, it’s still controllable. And oh, the music in the app is quite engaging as well as suits the setting of the app.

Final Say

remains to be, after all, the finest of them all other endless running games. With its clever combinations, it can surely keep its players digging for more– It’s that insanely addictive! It’s euphoric and its urge for you to keep pushing on a few more meters is as strong as it ever was. What’s more impressive about this app is that it comes for FREE!

I bet you’ll love this sequel too. For now, the app’s only available for iOS device, but I strongly believe that it will soon dash on Android Google Play Store.

If you wanna feel the rush, then sprint on the and download the app.

Feel free to watch the video below that shows off the app’s gameplay:
