Dine with the undead in Zombie Café!

Apparently, there’s no shortage of zombie games in the app world, but who would have ever thought that they can be viable characters in the Cooking Games category?

The premise of this newly released game is this: Instead of killing zombies, you’ve partnered with an evil corporation to use and employ them for free labor to build your café empire.

Intrigued? Get to know the Café  World-esque cook-’em-up Zombie Café after the break.

Zombie Café by Beeline Interactive, Inc.  is a goofy-gory diner sim managed by zombies (mmm, brainss). It’s primarily a cooking game where your objective is to serve food to your customers, milk them from their money and get satisfying approval ratings in return. It is a free universal app but charges real money for additional in-app content.

Zombified Features

• Transform customers into zombie waiters using toxin and have them do your bidding… but be careful! If you work a zombie too hard they’ll get tired and will try and eat customers
• Raid neighboring cafés to steal recipes and toxin
• Decorate your café  with more than 100 items from the store
• Collect and prepare more than 50 zombie-inspired recipes
• Connect with your Facebook friends to form a franchise: order food, collect fees, and share recipes
• Keep playing even when you don’t have an network signal, or cook while you’re online every day to earn special “Frequent Fryer” bonuses

The Cooking Zombie

This app is yet one of those time management games where you cater to the whims of your customers and earn money for your every successful service. Basically, you have to select–with your undead hands–your character in cartoony graphics as your main zombie chef. Each zombie avatar is portrayed by their own groan of mindless hunger if I may say.

To begin with building the café of your twisted dreams, select the zombie and tap on the oven and then choose the food that you would want him/her to make, handburger and flies, anyone? Cooking the food may take some time depending on the meal you’ve chosen. However, you may use the zombie toxin to finish your dish faster and instantly. To use the toxin, simply tap on the stove and the finish button. Once your foods are cooked, move it to the serving counter and then tap on the serving counter to serve the dish to your customers. Easy, right? It’s just the same with other cooking games where your job is to cook and serve tasty dishes to your temperamental customers.

Now, the twist of the game is here. Seems like your zombie chef needs some assistants, so why not ask help from the customers instead? Convert your customers to become your slave zombie waiters or waitresses by tapping them and clicking the infect button.  Voila! Your lonesome zombie chef is lonely no more. You’d know that the toxin already worked once you see your customers’ skin turned green. Congrats on your new employee!  But yes, zombies need some rest too. I find it really odd for they shouldn’t be tired, they should be hungry, I mean very hungry! Oh well, the jaded ones eat your customers, ergo you must energize them.

Since you already have some helpers, it’s now time to  decorate your diner and upgrade your items by purchasing some stuff in the store. Just click on the shopping bag to open the store. You must keep in mind that 2 customers can’t sit at the same table, so you better manage your café by buying more tables and chairs.

As you progress, you just have to keep on cooking to earn levels and unlock new stuff. Likewise, you must also keep on serving to earn cash. You must never run out of foods to serve to earn more XP and get to discover more recipes. As you get more customers, you can infect most of them and have more employees. And by the way, since you have the sole control to your zombies, you can even fire them if you want to.

As you go through the game, there’s this certain  feature to look forward to and that is the challenge of outdoing other cafés– your competitors. They usually steal your customers with a cheaper lunch special they offer. Pay them a visit, terrorize and send your zombies to cause havoc in rival cafés. If you succeeded, then you’d get to steal their recipes. It gets more entertaining in the sense that you can select your zombie employees, energize them and asked them to attack the competing restaurant, in short, you’re in full control of your revenge. And oh, did I mention that you can pinch on the screen of your mobile or device so that you can zoom it and see more clearly what’s happening within the game? Harking back, as you raid other cafés, you earn money for your own café.

Like any other games, you can buy items to improve on the game. Get more toxins by purchasing it via online using real cash that will be charged to your iTunes account. The app also offers to form a franchise with your Facebook friends and offline play.

Some Zom-bugs in the Oven

The app’s graphics are very impressive as well the music. I love how adorable the zombies looked like despite their spookiness. Aside from that, I like the idea of sending your zombie minions to attack, steal toxin and recipes from other cafés. I find it as an entertaining deviation from the usual  time management games. However, there are some instances where controls are dysfunctional. It’s just a minor downside of the game but it takes away the joy at some point. Other than that, since you usually watch zombies wait tables for a couple of minutes at a time is less than thrilling, to say the least, well, overall the game is still very addictive. There’s something gratifying to see how your diner grows from nothing to become something. Not to mention, it’s time consuming so it’s perfect for killing some idle times. I don’t know about you, but you’ll notice that they censored those scenes when they attacked on the enemies. I find it absolutely strange, perhaps the devs wanted to keep it less gory than any other zombie-themed apps. Last but not the least, I also like that users have full control of their zombies– you can put a name on them, change their role in the game and what not, you may also share your photos via Facebook as you can take screenshots of it.

Keep Your Eye On The Brain

My final thoughts exactly? If you’ve had enough of the charm of the cutesy time management games such as Pucca’s Restaurant, Hello Kitty Café and Barrr then why not try Zombie Café? It’s a very fun app to explore and I concede that I find it simply one of the best. Besides, who can’t resist zombies? This one is thoroughly an engaging and witty gastronomical experience you definitely shouldn’t miss.

The verdict: This app is an interactive game that will keep you entertained.

Cook bizarre dishes and poses humans! Grab the app on the and for free.
